This seminar brought EDE project partners from Rhodes University, Maseno University, and Vrije Universiteit, together with colleagues from other countries to discuss the implementation of coursework in the doctorate. They shared the strengths and weaknesses of this approach and offered insights into how to ensure that the coursework enables doctorate candidates to both make a “contribution at the frontiers of their discipline or field” and attain the graduate attributes specified in the national doctoral standard.
